The new entrance to Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s subterranean “sinking shaft”. The shaft was originally built to sink into the ground under it’s own weight, like a giant pastry cutter.
The development creates an underground performance venue in what was once the working access to Brunel’s Thames tunnel.

Reinforced concrete rather than stone or marble. Also the lack of Doric, Ionic or Corinthian order does not belie the architectural design heritage.

A design that has remained constant over the centuries: Post and lintel, upright columns supporting horizontal beams.
Although now, modernity demands that these new builds are for the idolisation of the tourist Euro rather than any ancient Greek God.
